Itinerary of 8 days desert tour Marrakech to Casablanca via Sahara Desert
Day 1: Arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport
Arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport. Transfer from the airport or your hotel.
Day 2: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Roses Valley – Dades Valley
Depart in the morning through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi N’Tichka pass at an altitude of 2,260 meters. Pass through Berber villages to reach the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou for a panoramic visit.
Continue to Ouarzazate for lunch, then head towards the palm grove of Skoura, passing the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs. Visit the Kasbah of Amridil. Continue to the Valley of the Roses, then proceed to Dades Valley, where you will spend the night in a hotel.
Day 3: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Tinghir – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga
After breakfast, leave Dades Valley for the Todra Gorges. Enjoy free time to explore the gorge. Then depart for Erfoud, passing through desert routes and the palm groves of Tinjdad and Touroug (lunch on site). Stop in Erfoud to visit a workshop producing marble and fossils.
Continue towards the impressive dunes of Merzouga, arriving around 3:00 PM. Ride camels into the desert, head towards the dunes to watch the sunset, and spend the night in a Berber tent behind the great dunes of Erg Chebbi, located about 1.5 hours away. Dinner and overnight in the desert under the stars.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Errachidia – Ziz Gorges – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fez
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes. Return by camel to the lodge for breakfast and a shower. Depart the desert towards Rissani, then continue towards Errachidia via Erfoud. Stop at the panoramic viewpoint of the Aoufous Oasis.
Continue through Errachidia, known as the military city, and make a stop at the Hassan Adakhil Dam for photos. Travel along the Ziz Valley, passing the Ksours and the Ziz Gorges. You will also pass through the Legionary Tunnel (Zaabal).
Continue through the Middle Atlas, crossing the Tizi N’Talghom pass (1,907 meters). Proceed to Midelt (the «city of apples») and then to Azrou to visit the cedar forest and see the monkeys.
Continue to Ifrane, known as «The Switzerland of Morocco,» and take a photo with the famous stone lion. Finally, head to Fez via Imouzar Kandar. Arrive in Fez for dinner and overnight in a Riad.
Day 5: Fez – Guided Tour of Fez
After breakfast, enjoy a guided excursion to explore the royal city of Fez. The morning will be devoted to exploring the medieval medina (old city), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will visit the 16th-century Merinid Tombs, the 14th-century Medersas of Bouanania and Attarine, and the Karaouine Mosque, which is one of the oldest educational centers of Islamic teaching. Dinner and overnight in a Riad.
Day 6: Fez – Meknes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen
After breakfast, depart for Meknes. Explore the city’s impressive ramparts, monumental doors (such as Bab Berdaine and Bab Khemis), and visit the stables (Rua), attics (Heri), and stud farm. Make a stop at the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, one of the few mosques that non-Muslims can visit in Morocco. Exit through the famous Bab Mansour El gate and the vast Hedim Square.
Continue to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, where you will explore the 2,000-year-old site and get a sense of life during the Roman Empire. Continue to the blue city of Chefchaouen, where you will spend the night.
Day 7: Chefchaouen – Rabat – Casablanca
After breakfast in Chefchaouen, depart for Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Upon arrival, visit the Bab Challah, Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the Royal Palace, and the Kasbah Oudaya. Then, continue to Casablanca. Overnight in a hotel in Casablanca.
Day 8: Casablanca – Marrakech
In the morning, visit the Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Casablanca. Afterward, travel to Marrakech, which takes approximately 3 hours. In Marrakech, enjoy some free time to explore the city.
Visit key cultural and historical sites, including the Majorelle Gardens, the Koutoubia Tower, the Saadian Tombs, and the Bahia Palace. Transfer to the airport if you have a flight that day, or return to your hotel in Marrakech.
