Itinerary of 8 days desert tour Marrakech to Casablanca
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech - Transfer to your accommodation
On the first day, upon arrival at Marrakech airport, our driver/guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel or riad in Marrakech to settle in and relax. Your overnight stay will be in Marrakech.
We will spend the night at Riad Dar Silsila or a similar charming accommodation.
Day 2: Marrakech City Tour
Today, we will visit the important sites and monuments of Marrakech and explore Marrakech, considered “the red city of Morocco.” We will ensure that you see the most important sites of historical and cultural interest, including the Majorelle Gardens, the Medina, the Menara, the Koutoubia Tower, the Saadian Tombs, and the Bahia Palace.
In Marrakech, you will also have the opportunity to visit Jamma El-Fna Square. In this grand square, visitors can enjoy dancers, storytellers, jugglers, artisans, and snake charmers. After lunch at a restaurant near the square, you will walk through the souks and see hundreds of handicrafts. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore other parts of the city on your own. Overnight in Marrakech.
Day 3: Marrakech to Ouarzazate via Ait Benhaddou and the High Atlas Mountains
We will leave Marrakech at approximately 8:00 a.m. and head towards the High Atlas Mountains. A winding road takes us on a very impressive and wonderful journey through green valleys and Berber villages, while climbing to the highest pass in Morocco. Tizi N’Tichka is located at 2,260 meters above sea level. We will stop to Enjoy a coffee or mint tea and take some photos.
In the afternoon, you will visit Ait Benhaddou, a famous setting for international directors and filmmakers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many films have been filmed in this Kasbah and it was a very significant fortress on the ancient Salt Route, where caravans brought gold, slaves, ivory, and salt for trade from distant lands to Moroccan cities. Famous films such as “Game of Thrones,” “Gladiator,” “Obelix,” “The Mummy,” “The Jewel of the Nile,” “Sahara with Penelope Cruz,” and more have been filmed in this spectacular setting! Our tour continues to the city of Ouarzazate, which boasts several film studios and is known as the Hollywood of Africa. Overnight in Ouarzazate.
We will spend the night at Riad Dar Chamaa or a similar charming accommodation.
Day 4: Ouarzazate to the Dades Valley via Skoura and Kalaa M'Gouna
After breakfast, you will depart for the Dades Gorges from Ouarzazate, passing through Skoura, where numerous ancient kasbahs, some sadly in ruins, rise among the palm trees. A particularly magical stop is the small village of Skoura and the Kasbah Amridil. Skoura is a beautiful oasis filled with almond, fig, olive, and date palm trees. There are several beautiful kasbahs in the area, the largest of which is the Kasbah Amridil. Not only is it the largest kasbah in Skoura, but it is also one of the largest in all of Morocco.
From here, our route takes us through Kelaat M’gouna, the Valley of the Roses, famous for its Rose Festival in May. Here, we stop to see the cosmetics made locally from the abundant flowers of the valley. These products are well known throughout Morocco and highly valued. Afterward, enjoy the trails that line the cliffs of Tamlalt, nicknamed “the monkey’s toes.” Traditional houses sometimes blend into the rock in these green oases in the middle of the rocky valley. Overnight in the Dades Valley.
We will spend the night at the Riad Dades Paradise or a similar charming accommodation.
Day 5: Dades Valley to Merzouga via Todra Gorges - Camel Ride
This morning, after breakfast, we leave the Dades Valley and continue our journey to the Todra Gorges along the Dades Valley, considered the favorite and most impressive canyon of international climbers. After a lunch break, we head south toward the Sahara. Along the way, you will see many attractions such as a beautiful oasis, palm groves, landscapes, ancient ruins and adobe kasbahs, and dinosaur relics. Erfoud is the city of fossils, as it was once an ocean; many fossils and minerals are found in the area, which are crafted into beautiful furniture and decorative materials. The end of our route today is the Sea of Sand.
Then, join the camel trekking experience through the high sand dunes of the Erg Chebbi Desert. Your local guides will show you how to mount and dismount, as well as other practical camel safety tips. You’ll enjoy the beautiful sunset from the top of a high dune, then ride camels to your desert camp where you’ll spend the night. After a delicious dinner, you’ll have time to listen to Berber music performed by local nomads under the stars. If you love dancing, you can dance to the sounds of barbarian music. Don’t miss the unique sunrise over the desert the next morning.
We’ll spend the night at the BERBER CAMP MERZOUGA or a similar charming accommodation.
Day 6: Merzouga Desert Tour: Visit to the Nomads
Today, you will wake up early to witness the beautiful sunrise over the incredible Erg Chebbi sand dunes, casting various shadows and colors across the sea of sand dunes. Then, return to your desert camp to enjoy breakfast. Afterward, our wonderful desert excursion will begin by exploring the surroundings of the Erg Chebbi wonderland. We will drive off-road to visit the nomadic families who live around the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. This will be an opportunity to see their way of life and learn how they survive in the dry Sahara Desert, enjoying a cup of mint tea with them.
From there, we will head to the M’Fis mines. It is located on a plateau that offers a wonderful panoramic view of Erg Chebbi and the desert landscape. We will then head to the village of Khamlia (Gnaoua village). The people of this small village are originally from Black Africa and have a close and long-standing relationship with the Sahara. Their ancestors were brought from Central and West Africa. Caravans arrived in southeastern Morocco via the Sahara Desert. We will learn more about them and enjoy their traditional music. After enjoying traditional Gnaoua music, we will have a delicious lunch of Berber pizza. We will then return to Merzouga. We will drop you off at your accommodation. Overnight in Merzouga.
We will spend the night at Dar Hassan Merzouga or a similar charming accommodation.
Day 7: Merzouga to Fez via Ziz Valley and Ifrane
Today, after breakfast, we will leave the vast desert and travel to the town of Rissani, once an important stop on the Saharan caravan route. If you coincide with the daytime markets held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, we will have the opportunity to visit the souk, the largest in the region. We then continue our journey north through the Tafilalet palm grove, the largest in the world. You’ll see thousands of palm trees along the 20-kilometer road. This road takes us to the Ziz Valley, whose river flows down from the High Atlas and feeds the palm grove. Here we make a stop and from this elevated viewpoint we enjoy a magnificent view of the valley and the village of Aoufous.
We make another stop in Midelt, right in the heart of the Atlas, where you’ll have free time for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon, we continue our journey through the Cedar Forests where, if we’re lucky, we’ll see some monkeys. The next place we’ll visit is the city of Ifrane, located on the northwestern slope of the Middle Atlas at 1,630 meters above sea level. Its wide avenues, perfectly clean urban development, gardens, green spaces, and architecture make this city feel like a Swiss village. Ifrane feels out of place in Morocco. That’s why it’s called the Moroccan Switzerland, and if that weren’t enough, it has a major ski resort, Michlifen. We arrive in Fez around 6:00 p.m.
We’ll spend the night at Riad Al Makan or a similar charming accommodation.
Day 8: Fes - Transfer to the Airport
