Day 2: Dades Gorge => Toudgha => Rissani => Merzouga desert
=> After breakfast, hop back aboard your minivan or 4*4 and travel out along the famous ‘Road of 1000 Kasbahs’ to nearby Tinghir. Stroll through the oasis to the mighty Todra Gorge, where a deep crevasse in the orange limestone provides spectacular views, then sit down to lunch at your leisure (own expense) in one of the local cafes. In the afternoon, visit the holy town of Rissani — birthplace of Morocco’s ruling royal family and the age-old capital of the Tafilalt region. Continue on to Merzouga, a small village sitting on the borders of the Sahara Desert of Erg-Chebbi.
=> Here we embark on our camel trek and venture further into the desert, where we spend the night at a simple Nomad camp for some spectacular star-gazing. Surrounded by silence and millions of stars lets us appreciate the immensity of the Sahara Desert. Please Note: As we venture into the desert, you are requested to only bring an overnight bag and leave all your remaining luggage with the vehicle. Please pack your overnight bag ready for today in the second day of Marrakech to Casablanca trip.
Day 3: Merzouga => Midlet => Ifrane => Fes
=> That’s early if you want to wake up at dawn to watch the sun begin its daily arch with a cool blue morning sky as the shadows of the desert light up before becoming a glowing fireball. The sand is always changing, but an experienced camel guide knows the ripples and slopes of the surrounding dunes and will take you to a great vantage point to enjoy the sunrise. We will watch the first golden rays of the sun hit the brown desert dunes and then return to your camp for a delicious breakfast.
=> You will back to your hotel. Then after leaving the desert, you will begin your third day of Marrakech to Casablanca trip days towards Fez. Drive along the Ziz River with its gorgeous palm-lined oasis and fortified castles all the way to Midelt, a small town in the middle of the Atlas Mountains, where you’ll stop for lunchtime. In the afternoon, continue crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains towards Fes. You’ll notice a dramatic change in the landscape: snow-capped mountains, cedar forests, rich vegetation, and 180 arid and rocky landscapes for the rest of the tour. Your desert tour from Marrakech to Fes will end in the early evening and your driver will take you to your riad or hotel in Fes.
Day 4: Fes => Full Day Imperial City Tour
=> In the fourth day of Marrakech to Casablanca trip; The culture of Fez is prestigious because of its perseverance through time. The distinctive elements that made Medina and the medieval city so rich create an incomparable atmosphere centered on history. This luxurious riad-style accommodation is located in the city center. He meets you after breakfast and takes you on a private guided tour of the best preserved medieval city in the Arab world. Fresh citrus aroma fills the air.
=> You see a pattern taking shape inside the streets of the country’s old towns, filled with narrow, winding alleys. In Fez, you find alleys that are often created by charming architecture and brightly colored doors. The smell of leather quickly overtakes Medina. You hear metal tinkling on metal and skin chafing. The tanneries date back to the 12th century and fill the old town with the familiar fragrance that passes through the vendors. Tanneries are located behind the leather shops.
=> The pits are filled with colored pigments that stain the skin a specific color. Leather workers shape the fabric and divide it into bags, coats, and belts. Continue to follow your guide through the historic streets of the city and you find yourself in a rooftop café overlooking the entire Medina. Fresh mint tea will arrive at your table. The herbal scent blends with the sweetness of honey. The energetic pulse of the alleys fades away and you find a moment of calm and privacy on the rooftops overlooking history.
Day 5: Fes => Meknes => Volubilis => Chefchaouen
=> Fifth day of Marrakech to Casablanca trip via eastern desert 6 days: After breakfast, drive through miles of vineyards and olive groves to Meknes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities (along with Fez, Marrakesh, and Rabat) to discover its great past and vast souks. Must-sees are the Great Gate of Bab Mansour and the central square, as well as the ruins of the 17th century stables of King Moulay Ismail bin Sharif, which housed 12,000 stables.
=> Near Volubilis, a Roman city that has been partially excavated and remarkably preserved. Built in a fertile agricultural area, it developed from the 3rd century BC onwards as a Phoenician, then Carthaginian settlement, before becoming the capital of the Kingdom of Mauritania. Through olives and wine, it flourished under Roman rule from the first century AD and acquired a number of grand public buildings and beautiful city houses with large mosaic floors. It fell into the hands of local tribes in 285, and remained inhabited for another seven centuries as a Latin Christian community, and then as an early Muslim settlement. By the eleventh century, Volubilis was abandoned after the seat of power was transferred to Fez. Free time for lunch.
=> After that, you will continue to Chefchaouen, located in the only transcontinental natural park, declared a natural biosphere reserve. Chaouen is a mountain village, painted in white and blue, with wise, friendly, and respectful people, offering the visitor the beautiful decaying urban panoramas, precious samples of local crafts, and the peace and serenity hard to find today.
