Day 1: Marrakech => Ouarzazate => Dades Gorge
=> Departure from Marrakech at 7:00 am o’clock, you leave the Red City behind and head into the Atlas Mountains. Your destination for the day is the well preserved Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most dramatic sights of the Atlas, made famous as the filming location for several Hollywood films including ‘Gladiator’. The route takes us over Tizi N Tichka pass, the highest in Morocco, arriving mid-afternoon. You will then have time for an afternoon walk around the town.
=> After that, continue to Ouarzazate, nicknamed the ‘door to the desert’ because it used to be a crossing point for African traders on their way to Europe. It is now the site of the Atlas Film Studios, the setting for many Hollywood films, as well as Game of Thones and BBC’s Atlantis. It’s also home to the impressive Kasbah Taourirt. Originally this kasbah was later owned by T’hami El Glaoui who is better known as the Lord of the Atlas. The Krupps field gun that secured the Glaoui power is now displayed outside the kasbah. We then head south along the Draa Valley, a huge palmary containing over four million palm trees, bordered by many ksours (fortified villages). The night spent at the Hotel or Kasbah in Dades Gorge in teh first day of Marrakech to Fes 3 days Morocco desert .
Day 2: Dades Gorge => Toudgha => Rissani => Merzouga desert
=> After breakfast, hop back aboard your minivan or 4*4 and travel out along the famous ‘Road of 1000 Kasbahs’ to nearby Tinghir. Stroll through the oasis to the mighty Todra Gorge, where a deep crevasse in the orange limestone provides spectacular views, then sit down to lunch at your leisure (own expense) in one of the local cafes. In the afternoon, visit the holy town of Rissani — birthplace of Morocco’s ruling royal family and the age-old capital of the Tafilalt region. Continue on to Merzouga, a small village sitting on the borders of the Sahara Desert of Erg-Chebbi.
=> Here we embark on our camel trek and venture further into the desert, where we spend the night at a simple Nomad camp for some spectacular star-gazing. Surrounded by silence and millions of stars lets us appreciate the immensity of the Sahara Desert. Please Note: As we venture into the desert, you are requested to only bring an overnight bag and leave all your remaining luggage with the vehicle. Day 3: Merzouga => Ziz Valley => Cedar forests & monkey troupes of Azrou => Fes
=> Waking early we will climb the sand dunes to see the sun come up over the desert. The sands are always changing, but your experienced camel guide know the undulations and slopes of the surrounding dunes, and that they will take us to a fantastic viewpoint to enjoy the sunrise. We’ll watch the sun’s first golden rays strike the tawny desert dunes and then return to you encampment for a hearty breakfast.
=> Then leaving the desert behind, we will begin our trip towards Fes. Enjoy the shades of the palms and discover the charm of the old abandoned kasbahs among the traditional Berbers. Continue to Midelt the Aple’s Capital and then cross the Ziz Valley, which connects the Sahara Desert with the High Atlas Mountains.
